Problem for Peugeot 2005 405

Hi i have a peugeot 206 1400cc the cooling fans

hi i have a peugeot 206 1400cc the cooling fans are staying on and temperture gauge is all over the place, took it 2 a garage earlier done a quick test for head gasket which was negative, im taking the car back on friday but just wanted abit of advice as to what else could be causing this problem?

Its almost certainly the thermostat.
