How do I know when the ball joints on a 92 S10 Blazer 4WD need replacing?

Jack up the front end of the blazer so that the wheels arent touchin the ground and pull out toward yourself at the top, the bottom, and then at either side of either wheel. If you get alot of slack, they may be bad. Also you can visualy inspect the boots for wear and play.
