my car was running fine this morning, then all of a sudden the oil light came on quickly followed by the batterie light and the engine quit. It starts again but fails quickly. Does anyone know what could have caused this.

It sounds like the timing belt and serpentine belt need replaced. I would start with the serpentine belt first.
