I have a Murray Rider Mower with a Briggs & Stratton Engine Model number 287707.
The Electric Starter gear turns, is not worn, but will not rise and meet the engine gear to turn the engine.

Is this a bad starter in that the Electric Starter gear will not rise and meet the engine gear.....or does the battery not have enough starting amps to raise the turning gear to meet the engine gear.

try some wd40 on the shaft the gear rides on. work the gear by hand alittle it may just be stuck. usually if you dont have the power to spin the gear up the starter wont run at all
