A lot of possibilities. Generally speaking, you shouldn't have to touch the accelerator for it to start. If you have no trouble lights/indicators it would suggest a fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump being weak. "Cold engines take more fuel than warm engines so fuel issues present themselves earlier in cold weather. There's also the possibility of a leaking injector.
Is the check engine light on? How long has it been since the engine was tuned up? A worn plug that is "hot soaked" can create a longer cranking time. Hot soaked means it may have some un-burned fuel in the cylinder since the first cold start. A weak or worn plug has a harder time getting this fuel burned out of the cylinder when more fuel is being added during a warm start.
It sounds more like the ECT sensor, engine coolant sensor.
You will need to see what the computer sees,Checking this on a scanner will Show what temp the computer sees. If the sensor is not going cold enough," Which is when the computer will be putting in more fuel for a cold engine" . When the engine is warmed up the computer sees the temp and burns less fuel to maintain operating conditions.
May need a bigger battery if cranking speed is too slow. Thinner oil helps some (like mobil 1) might even consider an engine heater, they are pretty cheap and really work great, saves the engine also. The fuel line deicer is a wise move, especially with the new gasoline these days.
sound like transmission slipping.check transmissionfluid level if okay.change fluid and filter if its been long time since last change.when very cold out side let engine warm up get transmission fluid temp up.transmission fluid wont circulate too good if temperature way below freezing.new rule when cold outside let engine warm up get transmission temp up.
You should have the fuel injectors and the especially the "cold start injector" checked for leaks. The cold start injector only operates during cold starts. If you don't notice the problem during warm starts, then the cold start injector is the place to start.
Your vehicle uses the coolant temp sensor and the intake air temp sensor to determine the engines temperature on a cold start. If one of them is dramatically different than the other it will flag a code.
Is the check engine light on?
When was the last time you had a tune-up? if recently what brand of plugs where used?
Have you noticed any hard start issues after a hot soak? A hot soak would be driving the car until fully warmed up, shutting of the engine for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and then starting the engine again.
If the temperature drops dramatically then the SAE40 will turn a bit thick and make it hard for the engine to turn over
The idea of using a mulitigrade oil such as the 10/40 is that the oils starts off thin when it is cold and gradually gets thiscker as the engine gets warmer
