Start with the throttle body. I use brake clean and a toothbrush. Clean the plate and were it sits. Wouldn't hurt to spray down the MAF sensor, if it has one. Once you do it, it will take a few seconds to start. Once started, rev it up and spray inside the throttle. Keep it running. Most times this is a $4 fix.
My
2000 Windstar with the 3.8 liter V6 would stall when idling or at
intersections. (The squealing is probably a separate problem from stalling.) It ran fine down the road, but stalled at stop lights.
The fix was to replace the Idle Air Control Valve. It is an easy to
replace item, since it is held on by two bolts right on the top of the
Air intake from the air cleaner. I tried to clean the old one, with
spray cleaner, but it only helped a little. Since stalling at an
intersection is dangerous, especially when you need to get out of the
way of oncoming traffic, I opted to just buy a new replacement valve.
You can get one from O'Reileys, Autozone, PepBoys, NAPA, et. It cost
almost $100, but how much would getting hit cost if you could not get
out of the way of oncoming traffic. Replacing it took about ten minutes.
My Windstar is now reliable when I need to blast off from a dead stop
after idling at a signal.
Here is a link to the valve that I got a NAPA just to show you what a small simple, but vital, part it is. http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail.aspx?A=CRB216639_0169844105&An=599001+102000+50028+2028059
SOUND LIKE THE IDLE AIR CONTROL OR MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WILL CAUSE VECHICLE TO STALL OUT.ALSO BAD GASOLINE. BAD COILS OR BAD FUEL INJECTOR.STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER.AND A INTAKE LEAK.MANY THINGS CAN CAUSE VECHICLE TO STALL.
The same thing happened to my 99 C70. I had to replace coils, in the engine...has somewhat to do with the spark plug stuff. Cost me $600.
Also the electric seats go out, they are lame. I spent $150 fixing my driver side one time, then it went out again...and is stuck...but okay enough for me to drive, and I refuse to fix it again.
It sounds like the torque converter clutch. Just unplug it. It is the square 4 pin plug on the front of the transmission. Once it is unplugged and you get it unlocked, it will be fine. Just leave it unplugged, it won't hurt anything.
