99 chevy malibu - (Service Engine Lite was on) idling fast for 25 miles - had to ride my brake most of the time got to work shut it off and had to take the car out again - then it was fine - no racing - no noise (no serv eng lite). What could be the problem and is it expensive.

If your check engine light was on, it will set a stored code in the computer. That will tell the shop what system is malfunctioning. In knowing the code and pairing that information with your symptoms, the shop should easily find the problem and correct it. (or, if it's something simple, you could do that as well, depending upon your skill level)

check your idle control sensor sounds like its shot if this does not solve it your ecu could be faulty need a replacement
