You have a failed transmission, it will need to be torn down and inspected to see exactly what went wrong internally.

Your window regulator is broken. You are not going to fix it or put the "spring" back on. You will need to replace the entire window regulator. (There will be lots more room for your hands this way too!) The regulator assembly looks like the picture below. It is available at AutoZone, Oreilly"s, Napa, Carquest, and several other parts retailers It will cost you about $90 (U.S.) give or take a few depending on where you live.

I have a 1999 Dodge Durango and today the window just went down into the door. I took the panel off and it is still on the slide. I can move it up and down with my hands. Any ideas?

I have had to replace three of the four window power regulators in my 2000 Durango. They just seem to stop working within a year or two of each other.

If the cable is loose you need to replace the window regulator.
