Kia Sedona hood release

I have a KIA Sedona. The handle on the hood release cable in the passenger compartment came off. How do I open the hood?

  • GARDENZ Nov 03, 2009

There is no way to clamp vice grips or any other tool upon the cable as the severed end is inside the protective sleeve. The question is: how to get the hood open without using the release cable.

  • GARDENZ Nov 03, 2009

I can fish around and hook that cable, however that doesn't do anything because only way that that would work would be if the handle were intact which would then prevent the end of the cable from moving. Since this is not the case, hooking the cable does not pull on the latch, which of course is what needs to be done to open the hood.

You will have to bend a hook in a welding ror ar a coat hanger and see if you can locate the cable under the hood and pull it back with the hook.

  • Anonymous Nov 03, 2009

You need to fish around under the hood where the other end of the cable actually hook to the hood latch.

Break away the rest of the plastic handle. You are going to have to replace it anyway. Then use the vicegrips and when your done, replace the cable and the plastic handle.

Hi,

you might have move through the bottom of the car to open the hood. Or possibly by removing a tiring and use a long pole of some sort to unleash the latch that holds the hood down while someone else raises the hood.

Thank you.

How to open hood of broken cable Kia Sedona 2005

sorry to hear you have a snapped hood cable you can access the long hood lever from the front grill with a screw driver, but the problem is the actual catch that as a very strong spring but with the hood catch released and a long screw driver and a bright torch you can with a struggle go between the catch at an angle to price the catch claw to one side, but at the same time being carful not to damage your front grill, you can not take the front grill off as it is bolted on.. It also depend on what end of the cable as broken if it in the cab you can cut the outer case back a little bit to get to the inner cable to pull it with pliers or grips, but if it's the catch end then you are going to struggle as the is a metal shroud that covers the catch so there is no way to get to the catch lever to be able to operate it by leverage. I'm sorry but you are going to struggle but it can be done.

Very good luck to you hope you do it on your first attempt but release the hood lock so your not struggling against that.

2010 kia sedona washer fluid not spraying

The hood glides up on a gas strut, and most fluid filler areas are conveniently located at the front of the engine compartment. It releases on the left hand side below the steering wheel. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Broken hood cable for a '07 kia optima. how do I get the hood open?

I think that it is unlikely that the cable on a car that new has broken. More likely a sticky latch. Have someone push down and then lift on the hood while you are pulling the release handle.
Hopefully it will open , be sure to lube the latch mechanisim up with something before you close the hood so that it works next time.

How do you manually release the rear hatch in a 2003 kia sedona? The outside latch handle does not work anymore.

This happened to me, I removed the interior light fixture on the rear hatch and reached in to pull the connecting rod, this works for an one off opening, you will need to take the panel off once the hatch is open and repair your outer handle, our connection was broken at the handle which I repaired and it works great. Hope this helps.
