I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS non turbo and the power steering belt constantly tears. It will last anywhere between a few hours to a few weeks and then just tear.

Hi, I would be taking a good look at the pulleys for the power steering unit. You may have a sharp piece of metal that is cutting the belt. Just remove the belt and run your fingers around the pulleys, but be careful not to cut yourself if there is something there. I'm sure there is.
