Problem for Nissan 2005 Altima

2006 3.5 SE @ 49000+ and Check Engine Soon just lit up

I have a 2006 3.5 SE @ 49000+.

I've noticed no performance problems (this car hauls).

At my last oil change they told me I needed a new cabin air filter, which I blew off and also a transmission fluid flush which I also blew off.

But again, there is no problem with engine temp, starting up, pick-up... it seems completely normal to me.

Is this just a "dummy" light going on because I'm about to hit 50000, possibly?

- Sorry - it's an amber light that actually reads: "Service Engine Soon" Thanks.

- BTW - thought this would be obvious, but just to clarify... when I said 49000+, I meant miles on the vehicle.

- This is a service (the scanner) many auto parts stores offer for free these days right (Pep Boys or NAPA Auto Parts)? Also, this isn't some gimmick by the manufacturer to get me to bring my car in for some 50000 mile service? Thanks guys... I'll let you know how things shake out. BTW - this is a great service you're providing!

this is a "check engine" light. to get the info you need you need to hook up a scanner a retrieve the codes in the vehicles memory. oncde you have codes on your screen, you will know either what questions to ask or at least where to go. glad to help with the codes once you have them.

Check Engine Soon lights are to alert the driver that there is an emission system fault. This will need to be checked by your dealer. You may not notice any performance issues but you will notice a drop in fuel mileage. A dealer is the best option due to the many different campaigns and tech tips at the dealer.
