The idle control valve (IAC) controls the idle speed by changing the amount of air that will bypass into the intake manifold. It's activated by the ECU (engine control unit; your computer) depending upon the running condition of the engine (A/C on or off, Power steering, cold and warm running, etc.). So, you may have some inconsistency in your idle speed, and you may burn a bit more gas if the idle goes a little high, or you might stall now and then, but I wouldn't think it was immediate problem situation. Don't, however, let it go on forever.
Hope this helps you.

My Honda Accord 2000 EX 2 door coupe, 3.0L, has thrown a P0505 code after I cleaned the egr port on the intake manifold. After the car warms up, the idle will bounce between 1000 rpms and 1500 rpms, up...

First check the connector and wiring. If good, remove the idle air control valve and clean the passages as well as the valve and seat. Reconnect the valve but don't install. Have someone start the car while you plug the downstream passage. The car sould idle down or stall, and the valve should retract. Remove your finger, and the valve should extend. If the car will not idle down with the passage plugged, you have a vacuum leak. If the valvedoes not react properly, check continuity of the wires to the ecu.

My 1990 honda accord has a problem with the idling, it idles up n down when its cold or hot.i cant figure out what the problem is can u help me thanks

What usually is the culprit with these models is the Idle Air Control valve. (IAC) Its located around the intake and throttle body ..Often these get clogged up.. I have removed and cleaned many and replaced a few as well...Also It can be your fast idle valve too depending what else its doing like idle fluctuation at stops in neutral , cold , or hotdr_greg.jpg and what not ..A little more info may help but this is where in my opinion is the best bet to start..Common on the 90-93 accords...Here is a pic so you can see what Im talking about...The IAC is circled red and Fast Idle valve in yellow ...good luck .. and Hope this helps a little. Let me know what happens when or if you fix it..Thanks :)

My 1986 honda accord runs at a high RPM when cold and dies when its warm

i'm really not familiar with the older hondas but if you've got an idle air control valve yours is a common symptom of a faulty idle air control valve. check the wiring to it and make sure the connector is clean and tight. if the wiring and connector is good i'd recommend replacing the iac valve.
