This really sounds like an ignition issue but usually the key will not turn off until you put the vehicle into park. But for this issue something is locking the gear selecter inabling you to push the button to move it into park...you may try putting it into neutral to see if the vehicle will now turn over. Since the gear selecter will allow you to move to neutral without pushing the button. These year model vehicles have always had an issue with the ignition lock cylinder, the lock cylinder would jam up and not let you turn the key most of the time you are able to wiggle the key to get it to turn. Sometimes it is just locked up so badly that you would have to get a locksmith to unlock the cylinder allowing you to replace it right away. You are not able to replace the cylinder without the key in the "ON" position. If this is nothing that you are experiencing please reply back with further information to allow me to troubleshoot this issue.
