According to the Gates site (mfg. of belts and hoses) it is not an interference engine. I would check the compression when I replaced the timing belt as bent valves will show up on this test.

Timing belt is broken. Interference or non interference motor?

Most Ford vehicles from 1985 and up have enough valve clearence so the valves do not get hit when the timing belt snaps. Since I worked for ford for many years I have only seen one with valve damage and the youg man said he was driving his car really hard at high RPM's. I believe you will be okay on your engine as long as when the belt broke the engine was not at high rpm's. If know one has told you those engine recommend a timing belt replacement every 60k. I hpe this helped and I hope this fixes your problem. Good luck, Roger

What mileage should i have my timing belt changed on my 2000 toyo

your owners service manual should tell you , most cars and trucks are around 80k for timing belts and I am not sure if it is a intererence. just remember when doing the timing belt do the tensioner and pulleys as well and water pump if driven by timing belt and all seals cam and crank. timing belts are one of the most important maint issue and most people dont until its to late after it has broke.

Replacing timing belt on a 1999 ford contour 2.0

moz-screenshot-6.jpgCAUTION The 2.0L engine is an interference motor. Extending thereplacement interval could lead to the belt breaking and severe andcostly engine damage. Care must be taken if rotating the crankshaft orcamshafts with the belt off, if resistance is felt, do not force themto turn.

Timing belt broke while driving

If a valve was up all of the way (during intake or exhaust) it could have come into contact with the piston crown and bent a valve... Hardly a 'blown motor' though...
