I had the same problem w/ my right rear door on my civic lx 1998:

My little nephew was playing with the child proof locking mechanism, so I though that was the problem, I started to take the inside door trim panel apart and using my flashlight I discover that the spring located in the door handle was a rusted, so I applied a bit of WD40 and wha-la, it work like charm (I guess all it needed was some lubrication so the spring can expand and contract in order to open the door smoothly.

For sure I will pointing the high pressure water gun from the car washes away from the door handle

The child safety lock should stop the door from opening from the inside as that is it's purpose however the external door handle should open the door. It sounds as though the actuating rod has disconnected some how from the door latch mechanism. this often happens when a "slim Jim" or hanger has been used to open the door incorrectly. You will have to find a way to get the door open so this can be repaired. Your best bet is most likely to have a dealer do this as I can think of no way to access the door release parts without damaging the interior door panel with the door closed.

    I hope it helps!

Sounds like something has gone wrong in the latch itself. Even if the child lock was engaged, it should open from the outside. You will need to remove the inside panel to get access to the latch and get it to release. I would plan on changing it with either a good used latch or possibly a new one if you are unable to find a good used one.

Friend has a dodge avenger 4 dr and has child safety lock enabled but cant open from inside or outside any way to get open ...... thanks

The Child Protection Door Locks (Rear Doors) are located inside the rear edge of the door. Insert the tip of the ignition key or similar flat-bladed object into the lock and rotate approximately one-quarter turn to the LOCK or UNLOCK position (as indicated by the stamped icons). WARNING!
Avoid trapping anyone in a vehicle in a collision.
Remember that the rear doors can only be opened
from the outside when the Child Protection Door
Locks are engaged.

1997 Geo Metro rear door won't open!

I have the same car, same problem. I've still not been able to fix it, despite taking the inside panels off the rear doors, checking the rods were seated, applying WD-40 to the lock mechanisms, and manually working the mechanism. Child locks are not engaged, but I tried putting them on and off too. Just won't open.

Door locks

Regarding the rear door child locks: There is a small lever on the latch side of the door, you can only see it with the door open. Move it to the other position.

Regarding the front door locks: You either have a bad door lock switch, or the power lock solenoids are beginning to fail. To check this, you will need to pull the door panels off, & measure the actual voltage at the solenoids whilst manipulating the lock switch. If you have 12 + VDC, I would suggest replacing the door lock solenoids. Not hard to change, but it IS time consuming. Best left to a dealer. Expect to pay 1 hour per side to change each solenoid.
