How long since overall tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes?
The basics for a rough idle, check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum, something of that nature. Does it run ok off-idle?
Robert, have vehicle scanned for diagnostic codes. Check for vacuum leaks and if you have not done recently give vehicle a complete tune up cap, rottor, wires, plugs, filter's,etc, including injector/throttle body cleaning. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Sounds like your idle valve has stopped working . Does it run fine when warmed Up? If so I would clean the throttle body and remove the idle valve and clean it. After reinstalling it have someone turn the key on while you tap the idle valve lightly with a screw driver Handel. Then see if it will idle when started. If it does then you need a new one.
Your ignition spark control module is going bad, your coils pack are located right underneth them. this is what tells your coils packs to produce spark to your spark plugs. they are easy to replace just make sure you mark you coil pack with some tape and make sure you put them back in the same order as they came off the spark control module. Easy to replace, just make sure you use the proper size torx or socket size on the screw heads...
The cooling system shouldn't be losing much coolant.
If you're putting in coolant regularly If you're seeing slick oil in the coolant If you're hearing noise in the engine while driving
You may have a crack in your engine block and your engine isn't being lubricated properly anymore. This will cause noise and leaks, make a motor run really rough and cause rough starting.
I suggest you bring your vehicle in for a coolant system pressure test and a chassis leak check. This should be a free service from any auto shop that wants your money for repairs.
Spark plugs usually degrade your performance slowly and don't make noise while doing it unless in extreme cases.
here are some signs of a bad fuel pressure regulator: the vehicle runs rough, the engine will not start(usually in morning) MANY TIMES ENGINE STARTS BUT STALLS SHORTLY AFTER STARTING. a bad regulator can result in fouled spark plus, and fuel milage will decrease noticeably. the only cure is to replace regulator. what makes it fail usually it gets a tear in the diafram and it cant maintain fuel pressure. hope this helps toolman,
you can be getting fuel but it has to be enough pressure to operate injectors. this can only be determined with a gage..does it fire if u spray starting fluid in the intake and crank ? if so u havent enough pressure from pump.
If you have a check engine light on, than it is likely a sensor that needs to be replaced. If filter has been changed, you may have weak fuel pressure, or a bad sensor. A leaky fuel injector will also cause this
