I changed the turn signal cam in my 1984 f-150 because the turn signal would not stay and then released when the wheel turned back. both signals worked before now after replacement they dont please help. i need to get my inspection sticker

You will basically have to replace the cancel cam to correct this problem. Some disassembly of the steering wheel components may be required and if the vehicle is equipped with air bags it is probably better left to a professional.

you may need to replace the turn signal cancel cam on the steering column. it is on the shaft after the steering wheel ,therefore the steering wheel has to be removed.

there is whats called a cancel cam inside the steering column it is a metal ring that hits a plastic tab inside the wheel as it turns if its broke it wont hit the tab and wont shut off the turn signals

The switch is broken inside. You will have to pull the steering wheel off with a wheel puller, and replace the whole switch.

I HAVE REPLACED NUMEROUS TURN SIGNAL SWITCHES, THERE ARE PLASTIC PIECES INSIDE THAT ARE PROBABLY BROKEN. THE STEERING WHEEL & OR AIRBAG MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE TO BE PULLED, DEPENDING ON THE YEAR OF YOUR VEHICLE. MOST FORDS, WITH AIRBAGS, THE SWITCH CAN BE CHANGED WITH AIRBAG IN PLACE. REMOVE THE PLASTIC SHROUD UNDER STEERING WHEEL. TWO SCREWS FACING THE LEFT,WILL RELEASE THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. THE NO AIRBAG THE WHEEL WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE TO BE PULLED. A NEW SWITCH IN YOUR HAND WILL HELP FOR COMPARISON.

Raise the tilt wheel to the upper position
Remove the lower philips screws securing the upper and lower clamshells on the column.
Release the top and bottom clamshells from one another by pressing together where they meet.
Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the turn signal stalk

Early 2000 eclipses:
Remove two philips screws bolting the signal stalk base to the column

Late 2000 eclipses:
Squeeze the top and bottom release levers to release the signal stalk base from the column

Pull the stalk and base straight outward to remove from the column.

Installation is the reverse.

no, there's a cam in the turn signal switch which keep the signal work until you turn the wheel to cancel, evidently that cam is broken.

Have you changed this relay out? It may be be defective and stays in the blinking mode after the cancel cam has cut it off. Try taking the relay out and re-installing it to see if it's a bad connection.If that don't work go with a new relay. Can you hear your turn signal switch at the sterring wheel click off after you have made the turn?

it is the return cam located inside of the steering wheeel. Some are a part of the turn signal stalk and some are a part of the back side of the steering wheel.

Try changing the fuse....even if it looks fine. Then, the flasher....and last, the turn signal cam.....which is part of the turn signal arm assembly (you have to pull the steering wheel off).
