I would like to reset the check engine light on my 2001 BMW 330ci. The car is running great, just changed the oil and filters and there are NO actual engine problems, this was the engine telling me to change the oil which I have. The liht is annoying me, that is the only problem.
Thanks,
Hi as the car is BMW the only way you can reset it yourself is to buy an electronic tool that will plug into your cars engine management system, that will allow you to reset this light!! You can buy this tool from 80-100 Pounds.
Other cars such as ford and peugeot etc can reset there light by using buttons on the dash board, but BMW, Mercs and Lexus don't have this function. Your local garage will also be able to turn the light off, but will charge a small FEE!! So you will need to decide weather it is financially worth buying the tool to do it yourself or just pay the garage.
If you are planning on keeping the car for several more years if would be worth buying one as it will also provide you with the error codes, should your car have a problem and you will also be able to use it on other cars in the future if you do part with your BMW.
They are worth having if you work on cars yourself, as it will provide you with all error codes.
Let me know how you get on!! And if you need any further assistance. Thanx Paul
