- I'm assuming the heater core is partially plugged, the heat is inadequate and I want heat this winter.

- I'm assuming the heater core is plugged, I want to drain the system. is it best to use a "T" fitting and which hose is best to cut into if i go that route

- Thanks..will a t fitting accomplish the same, rather than digging for those hard to reach hoses on the firewall.

- Thanks. I feel better now about the process. Thank you.
is the cooling system rusty? there are more than a few reasons for this, the 1st is a stuck open engine thermostat, the engine fails to heat up, this reduces the heat, but to clear the core, remove the hoses carefully at the heater nipples on the firewall in the engine compartment, then use a garden hose to flush it 1st one direction and then reverse to the other hose, that weill clear it.

- don't cut any hose! just remove them from the core nipples at the firewall. you need not drain the coolant, u will only loose a small amount
- heater cores do wear out. Or they get dirty. Cleaning can help but you are better off getting a new one. Save some trouble seriously. I've been a mechanic for 8+ years. I've seen people take them out, clean them, flush entire system, put back together and car ran same exact way.

- you will have to use the clamps that hold them on. Plastic fittings to heatcore are plastic. They do break easily. Also you will probably have to access the rest from under the dash panel.

Car needs the drive cycle reset after replacing the battery, I have paid 2 mech, over 400.00 each and it still will not go through az auto emissions. Both mech.s said something about sensors needing replaced, but could not find them. Car is a 2000 Saturn Body Style 4DSD Model SSL.
