Hear a grinding noise from the right front wheel when I make left turn (mostly). Noise has now progressed to anytime the wheel is in motion. Also hear squeeking sound (ball bearing possibly?). I've changed the front brakes and had the rotor sanded to remove slickness (not technical term) thinking that was the cause of the grinding - no help. Could it be the ball bearing?
You should definitely pull the front wheel and check the bearings (they are roller bearings, not ball bearings). With the wheel off, you should be able to isolate where the noise is coming from, but I vote for the bearings. Check, replace and/or repack, and adjust properly. If you have noise, you should be able to feel the "play" in the bearings, or see the wear problem on the spindle and bearings. I hope this helps you.
This is most likely a bad wheel bearing and the symptoms you describe are typical of this especially when you are hearing a grinding noise which is becomes worse or becomes apparent with the steering turned in one direction than the other.
You can check this by jacking the car up on that side and checking for excessive play in the wheel by rocking it from side to side. You may also hear a grinding noise when the wheel is rotated which is a sure sign that the bearing is badly worn.
As a safety measure be sure to support the car on axle stands or adequate supports whilst checking this out.

I have a 2000 nissan maxima, with traction control. Long story short. It blew its transmission and I had the transmission replaced. It started fine at first.. Then it had some trouble starting, then it wouldn't start at all. It just clicked, so I had the starter replaced. After the starter replacement, it would crank, but not start. MOST OF THE TIME. One out of 15 times, it would start and run fine. Next step, I took it to another mechanic, they couldn't figure it out and sent me to the dealer to get a diagnostic. I got the diagnostic and the dealer reported a problem with ECM and the IAC (air intake control). I went and bought a new ECM and IAC and returned it to the mechanic with the instructions. They put in the ECM and it still wouldn't start. Then they replaced the cam angle sensor and the crank angle sensor. Still no dice. The mechanic is mystified and cant figure out what is going on because according to their diagnostic tool, everything is fine. He has not put in the new AIC yet (actually, it's the whole throttle body assembly).. I'm not sure if I want to pay him to try, if that wont solve the problem. I'm down almost 4 grand on this car now.. It would **** to lose that. Any ideas? Should I cut my loses and give up?
