Hi,
The coils are easily replaceable by a do-it-yourselfer.
There's also really no way to check them visually.
Here's
what they will look like under the cover. Please ignore the other
markings, as I'm just linking this picture from another site :-

To replace them, all you do is release the locking tab by slightly pushing the connector onto the coil, pulling back the locking tab with your thumb, and then pulling the connector off of the coil. Then, the coils are just pulled out of their bores with a bit of force, and maybe something to help lever them up. Easy stuff.
