Anti lock system activating why driving at low speeds

You need to have the ABS system scanned. You probably have a bad wheel speed sensor. most likely located in one of the hub bearings meaning; you may have to replace a hub wheel bearing assy with the faulty sensor. Traction control uses the same speed sensors as ABS. when the warning lights are on the system is not working.

Hi Carol , do you mean PATS passive antitheft system ? Locked up your car ,do you mean it won't crank over an start ?
The passive anti-theft system uses radio frequency identification technology to deter a driveaway theft. Passive means that it does not require any activity from the user.

• During each vehicle start sequence, the ignition key identification code is requested by the vehicle protection anti-theft electronics.
• If the key's ID code has been programmed into the system, the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) is signaled to enable the vehicle to start.
• If the key's ID code is not programmed into the system, or if no encoded key is detected, then the powertrain control module is signaled to disable the vehicle.

The passive anti-theft system communicates the state of the security system to the powertrain control module via the J-1850 communications network data link connector (DLC). The powertrain control modulebased on the communications from the passive anti-theft system, will determine if the vehicle's engine is enabled to start. The passive anti-theft system differs from the active anti-theft alarm system in that the passive anti-theft system enables/disables the vehicle from starting and only operates with the ignition switch in RUN/START position. The active anti-theft alarm system has perimeter protection capabilities and operates only with the ignition switch OFF. Refer to Section 13-11A for active anti-theft alarm system information.
Vehicle Disabling The passive anti-theft system will be activated and disable the vehicle from starting if any of the following conditions exist:

• damaged encoded key
• unprogrammed key
• non-encoded key (key has no electronics)
• wiring concern
• transceiver concern
• Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) control module concern
• J-1850 Communications Network concern
• Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

From pads may be low causing the rear brakes to over brake and the anti-lock kicks in. Could be a sticking caliper piston and last the proportioning valve may need bleeding as it is offset.....

the abs module could have dirt in the connection its a common problem or the other side could be corroded or also the speed sensor in the transmission could be faulty

you need someone to scan it for codes but it sounds like the speed sensor for one of the wheels is droping the signal to the abs unit at lower speeds they can see that with the data stream with a scanner

no it's the compressor that keeps your car level that is going bad.have your garage check it out.

One of the sensors has gone bad and needs to be replaced, the other thing to that would also do that is the ABS sensor is dirty or needs to be re gaped to the speed ring on the hub. There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin. I suspect the abs issue is causing the speed control not to work if it happened at the same time the cruise control stopped working. When the yellow ABS light comes on, it means the ABS is dactivated. You may have a faulty accelerometer which senses acceleration and yaw (side to side lean). I have not seen a bad one but you said it is sensitive to acceleration.
I would unplug it and see what happens. The connector should have a small tab to depress so you can pull the connector out.

1. NOTE: The accelerometer is located under the center, rear passenger seat carpet. (I think you have to remove seat for access).
   Cut the carpeting along the perforations.

1. Disconnect the electrical connector.

1. Remove the nuts and remove the accelerometer.

Have dealer hook up tester and pull fault codes if you can't find an easy solution.
Some background info

A malfunction in the anti-lock brake system will cause the anti-lock brake control module to shut off or inhibit the system. However, normal power-assisted braking remains.

Malfunctions are indicated by the yellow ABS warning indicator in the instrument cluster.

The anti-lock brake system is self-monitoring. When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, the anti-lock brake control module will carry out a preliminary self-check on the anti-lock electrical system indicated by a three-second illumination of the yellow ABS warning indicator in the instrument cluster.

During vehicle operation, including normal and anti-lock braking, the anti-lock brake control module monitors all electrical anti-lock functions and some hydraulic operations.

Each time the vehicle is driven, as soon as vehicle speed reaches approximately 20 km/h (12mph), the anti-lock brake control module turns on the pump motor for approximately one-half second. At this time, a mechanical noise may be heard. This is a normal function of the self-check by the anti-lock brake control module.

Pedal pulsation coupled with noise while braking on loose gravel, bumps, wet or snowy roads is normal and indicates correct functioning of the anti-lock brake system.

Warning Lamp Indicator
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) uses the yellow ABS warning indicator to alert the driver of a malfunctions in the ABS.
The yellow ABS warning indicator will come on to warn the driver that the ABS has been turned off due to a symptom that exists in the ABS. Normal power assist braking remains but wheels can lock during a panic stop while the yellow ABS warning indicator is illuminated.

if abs activates when it should not,,, it means abs module senses one or more wheel sensores under 3 mph and the other sensores are above 3 mph. .the cause of this is usualy a bad wheel speed sensor or excessive air gap between the sensor and ringwheel. you need an abs data scanner to hook up and go for a test drive to find out which sensor is the culprit.

The most likely cause is rust buildup under wheel speed sensors causing them to dislodge(lift up) from front hubs and read incorrectly. If recall has been performed to fix this problem...You may have to replace the appropriate hub in order to stop the ABS activation at low speeds. Let me know if i can help more.
