4x4 will not engage but it feels like transfer

Check for vacuum at the front diff. You will see a couple of hoses leading into a vacuum pot. Check to see if the hoses are cracked , broken or loose. Make sure the little pipes that they connect to are clear of debris. You need vacuum down there for it to engage. You'll find what i'm talking about right under the front of the truck.
