Describe your 1992 Toyota Previa Problem: got in this morning put key in the ignition and nothing, like the battery was dead. Get out open the hood and the alarm starts going off. I bought the van used and it didn't have a remote for alarm or keyless entry so I pulled the positive side off the battery. Alarm starts again as soon as I touch the positive to the battery. Any ideas?

is this the first car ever to open a hood you?
pull the lever, see hood open 1 inch (y/n)
the fingers under front leading edge release the safety latch?
ever do that on other cars? y/n

Before you tear anything apart check your battery cables on both ends for looseness. Dirt or corrosion.will not let power through. I tried to boost my car and nothing would work. It was like the battery was dead so I got towed in. They put a battery tester on and the battery was fully charged so they replaced my battery cables and bingo everything was working again. One cable was not letting the power through it.

Aftermarket alarm??? Have it taken out and the vehicle put back to stock. Once those types of alarms get old they tend to fail

Hi Ken, Is the vehicle cranking (the engine turning when the starter is engaged or does nothing at all happen. If its the latter, I believe you have a problem with the battery. Get a friend to help with an jump start (Positive to positive and negative to negative) and then crank and it should start. If the engine turns but fails to start, when the ignition is turned on, do you see the engine check light with all the other warning lights. If not open the hood and replace the ECU fuse nod then try again. If you see the light, let us know and we can go on from there. Regards John

If you mean key will not turn in ignition,charge or jump start
Car has electronic ignition switch
If battery is low/flat it will not turn

It should be on the passenger side under the hood but to the rear of engine compartment on overflow tank.

Try using some water displacing fluid....I use wd-40.spray the sparkpulg wires and any other ignition components you can find.

bad ignition switch. replace and recheck
