Check fuel pressure. Bad pumps will work, just not enough pressure. If the engine light is on, check codes. Your's has a fuel pressure sensor and module that could go bad.
You may need to run some injector cleaner into your fuel system and also might want to put an additive in to burn off in water that has been introduced into to your gas tank via the gas pumps. Also when is the last time the fuel filter was changed?
The sending unit from your Fuel Pump may be damaged or the line running from the sending unit to the Gauge has been severed.
If it's a 2008 Model Year, you may still have it under warranty depending on Mileage on the truck. Take it to Ford and have them look at it. They should be liable to fix it since the truck is so new.
I'd change the plugs, wires and the ignition coil if you can see cracks. They are enclosed in oil so you may see oil as well but engine may be oily all over. If all of that is original then replace those three thing. Cost maybe $150 if you do it yourself.
The fuel pressure is weak, this happens a lot,the fuel filter was restricted ,and stained the fuel pump, this is a common thing,on all makes and models, the fuel pump is in the tank.
