Remove the valve cover from the driver's side and turn the engine over until you see the intake valve open and close and the exhaust valve start to open. Turn the engine timing mark back to 0 on the timing marker. That will be TDC. Put the rotor button on the distributor and set it at 3 o'clock. As you put the distributor in the rotor button will turn and should be in the 5 o'clock position when seated. That is the position for #1 plug. It is a snug fit but don't force it. If it won't go all the way down, the shaft may not be lined up with the oil pump. A long screwdriver can be used to turn the oil pump to line up if needed. If it doesn't line up at 5 o'clock, you'll have to pull it back out and turn the rotor one tooth and try it again. Hope this helps.
