Commodore sounds like it might be Australian?? If it was my car I would be looking for worn out bushings that are allowing too much movement. Control or A arm bushings for a start, possibly new bushing kits for the struts. It could also be possible that mounting holes have been enlarged from use and those would make the problem more obvious. Any chance you may have bent the control arms while driving? Since you had a mechanic do the work it should be safe to assume that ball joints would be good but it wouldn't hurt to check them as well. The springs could be weak enough to allow extra travel or maybe you got the wrong struts. Hope this helps.
check out lower control arm bushes rear bush moves was revised bush for this and check tie rod ends as well as stabiliser bar mounting bushes and link bushes all of these caused noises and was a revision in parts for all of these plus power steering restrictor to go in hose. Main one is lower control arm bush.
No oil or lubricant in ur oil filter means ur OiL PUMP is BUSTED!
Ur engine will not crank anymore 'cause ur piston, cranskhaft bushing, connecting rod bushing are all STUCK UP!
That means u have to PULL DOWN the engine and get a mechanic to overhaul the whole engine!
Verify this to ur nearest garage mechanic, it will be a costly repair!
Hope that might help u out!
taah!
ok but factor in the labor cost ($$$ per hour) of pressing out the old bushings and installing the news to just replacing the whole assembly. In the end it is your choice.
there are 2-3 bushings underneath the car that can be changed.....they are about 5-7 dollars each that you can pick up at the dealership and do it yourself...it's not hard at all...drive it on ramps and chock the wheels to make it safe....get underneath and then have someone in the drivers seat to shift the gears(while it's off) so you can see where the moving points are, then just undo the bolts and replace the bushings or you can just remove or loosen the bolts and lubricate them with lots of grease....I would try the grease first, it should do the trick...Kia will charge you about $130 to do it for you...
INSPECTION
1.Inspect the bushing for wear or damage.2.Inspect the return spring for damage or deterioration.
REASSEMBLY
1.Apply multi-purpose grease to the sliding parts of the bushings.2.Reassembly is reverse of disassembly.

sounds to me like your front control arm bushings are broken. have your mechanic check the bushings in rear of the control arm. the ones that are right by the 3 bolts in the control arm in rear. those bushings brake and cause play in the whole assembly, causing a rattle. Its a black round bushing about 2 inches in diamater. its most likely all separated. common problem. Have him look at your stabilizer bar links also.
