My 1998 taurus makes a tapping noise when i first start it but within 1 to 5 minutes it stops. I don't need oil.

They are hydraulic lifters. Remove rocker covers, start motor, they will rattle oil, tools are available for that. Loosen rocker nut until you here tapping. Tighten nut until tapping stops. Then tighten 3/4 of a turn. It will run rough for a minute until the lifter adjusts.

Drain oil and install correct amount, sounds like a lifter noise clicking sound not to loud just a steaddy tick, when you rev up gits faster right.....

If the oil level is full , you may want to have the oil pressure checked to make sure it is not a weak oil pump.

if you ran out of oil and you now can hear knocking sound comming from the engine then it time to get it checked by a mechanic

I am assuming that you used el cheapo oil filter rather than a known brand in the service. Oil filters have a non drain back valve built into the filter to stop your problem but some cheap or wrong filters do not have this valve hence your problem.. The noise goes when the oil pressure fills up all the hydraulic lifters and oil pressure is achieved.

The tapping is most likely your lifters, These makes the noise when oil is broke down or low, Maybe even a weak oil oump, Usually it is still making the niose on accl. and covers up by engine noise. Good luck to ya.

Was the oil low before you added any? What computer check? You went to a shop to have it scanned? Have the code issues repaired first then move on to the noise issues. Not a very new car I hope your not the original owner because you should not have these problems if you maintained it over the years and don't have 250,000 miles on it. If that's the case get rid of it

i would suspect the clutch is going, you can purchase all the parts needed seperatly from the pump so it will be a little cheaper.

Just add oil, or better yet get an oil change, your oil is obviously low, antifreeze is not a fix all.

is it full of oil cause the oil might not be getn around the engine fully when its on a cold start
