If you cant open the door at all you are screwed! To replace the outside handle you need to remove the door panel to access the bolts that attach the handle to the door.
I'm not sure that it is a cable in most cases they are rods, what most likely has happened is that the rod has either come off the door handle or off the lock, you will need to take the door panel off & check just where it has come off, if you can't see properly you may have to use a torch & a mirror to get a better view.......hope this helps......cheers.
you will have to remove the interior door panel inside to access the linkage to open the door you, Check the door handle if it is broken inside and out. The outside door handle is bolted on the inside one may have to drill a rivet out. You can use a bolt and nut to reinstall it make sure it isnt too long. Or you can rivet it back in. You will have to inspect the linkage and check out the adjustment and the plastic retainers sometimes you need to replace those they will come with new handles.The window has to be up to access the outside door handle from the inside.

There will be one bolt on it for locking the tensioner bolt. Loosen that. Then you can unwind the tensioner bolt.. you'll see it moving towards the motor as you undo it... that slackens the belt off so you can remove the belt.
After that, you can either undo the bracket from the block (obvious when you look) or undo the bolts from the bracket to the alternator.
Assume you have been able to remove window winder. The surround of the the door handle (interior) is clip on at four points. Tabs are about an inch in from each corner and slide over a plastic nub to lock in place. . Start at top right corner. Get a small flat blade screwdriver with blade horizontal and gently - repeat gently, prise tab upwards while applying gentle pressure away from door and pushing slightly upwards. Tab should just slide off nub holing it in place. Do same for other side on top tab. Gently wriggle downwards so bottom tabs disengage. Installation is reverse.
