97 Cavalier has a problem when the over drive engages it does not disengage at lower speeds. The solenoid has been replaced for the over drive but this did not solve the problem. What are some other soltions?
The other common problem would be a bad ground to the solenoid, so check the wire harness for damages like corrosion or broken wire. A good transmission shop can test drive the car with a tech 2 scanner hooked up the DTC ports and can read if there is an electrical problem with the computer or wire harness. Most shops will do this free of charge, it could also be a bad throttle position sensor that has the fault that is causing your problem. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know you got your car running 100% again soon.
