I need to remove and replace a single wire connector from the c51 multi-wire connector plug that plugs into the ECM. 2003 Eclipse V6 MT

- I have the digital factory manual with those pictures of connector plugs. The type plugs that plug into the ECM are a different type. The female connectors are very small and round, made to mate with a male-side pin, rather than a rectangular tab. The c51 plug has 3 rows of connectors with a retainer on the wire side of the plug. I have the retainer out, but can't release the individual wire connector from the plug. It takes a specific type tool inserted in a specific place and manipulated in a specific way.?

- Thanks. I was afraid I'd need a special tool. I may try the flattened paper clip approach, being poor.

this requires a special tool to release the the connector pin from the connector shell, u will have to buy that tool from the dealer, most likley it is a kit containing all the wiring terminal tools, u will need to inquire, no one else will have this tool., u will need to order it, u can also try using a flatinned paper clip to release the tiny spring out retainers that fold the terminal into the connector shell, be careful, if u damage the connector shell u have really created a mess for yourself.

Hi,
Removing a wire from the connector can be a pain, but is not impossible with a decent pick or two.
Each connector has a retaining clasp pushed into it, either a large rectangular panel across the top/broad side of the connector, or a flat wedge pushed into the end of the connector. This locks all the pins in place to prevent accidental removal.
According to the factory service manual, the MT/ECU connector has the wedge retainer pushed into the end.
Remove it using a steel pick to unlock the wire terminals.
Then using a straight pick release the plastic tab holding the wire terminal in position while appplying light pressure pulling rearward to slide the wire out.

I have linked a picture from the factory service manual to help out.

If you have any questions or need clarification, please ask so that I can help you further if necessary.

- Yes, you need to release the locking tab as shown in the diagram I linked.
I know your connector is not exactly the same as that one, as they can not show every single connector in the manual for an example. All the terminals release in the same principle way.

I wish you had requested further information before rating/declining my assistance, I could have pulled a harness and showed you further examples if it were necessary.

I hope you get it squared away regardless, thanks for using Fixya!
