quite normal as the vehicle has a auto matic choke,
once the engine starts warm up so the idle rate comes down "youdoit"

- what revs is it idling at ? unless it is realy high 2500rpm or so i wouldnt worry too much there will be sufficient oil pressure to not be doing any damage but ,i dont know what revs it is doing and without that i cant say what is right , but 1200 wouldnt be a worry

- you are right about cold engines ,and i have seen alot of changes in over 5o years of driving ,so i know what you are saying ..so many chages in recent years as to what a motor can take and thelubricants have come miles ,anyway ill wait for you tonight

- much too high for me .what does it idle at when hot ?
1200_---1500 rpm max.. when cold, should be 750--800 when hot

- earlier you said you spoke to someone at a toyota dealer ,with those figures at hand they may do the necessary adjustment, but those figures are not acceptable, people talk of idle senser control ,well i wonder if they have seen one ,i havent ,check again with toyota [a service manager not one of the monkeys] i think they will help if you can give the exact figures ,rather than saying it is idleing toofast

- well ,that surprises me as it does you ,but in say ing that, i do have ahealthy respect for the toyota vehicle designers, whilst i dont under stand their thinking on many things , over the years they have been right more times than me. NOW ,if it was my vehicle ,i would put acouple of litres of PETROTEC 2000 through the enginenext oil change . If you are not familiar with it, it used to be called SLICK50.and i swear by it . one of the sales gimmicks they used to use was to put it in an engine, drive to Albany [250 miles] drain the oil and drive back again . then fill it with oil and it would still have the same oil pressure as it did before they left, the y even ran a little tecumseh engine for a week ,then pulled the motor down and it miced up exactly to specs.. What i am suggesting and what they claim ,is the teflon coating on the bearingsgives you protection against wear during cold starts etc, definatly worth investigating .and you may get some peace of mind.
best wishes kerry
