Typically, when you hear a clicking sound, it indicates that the starter solenoid is bad.

A starter solenoid (or starter relay) is the part of an automobile which relays a large electric current to the starter motor, which in turn sets the engine in motion. In many vehicles the solenoid also engages the starter pinion with the ring gear of the engine.

How do I fix starting issues on 1998 Ford Explorer?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to Ford Explorer.

Leave the battery in the car and get it on a charger overnight. It sounds like the battery is low and there isn't enough current amps to power everything with the starter as well. If that doesn't work, you need a good auto-electrician to put it on a pro quality scan tool computer..

98 ford explorer has power but will not turnover, it just clicks, whats the problem?

Try a different battery, if still not turning over, check the starter, but before you do anything direct power the starter

Starting problem. Engine will not turn.

If you've checked everything else, and it's all fine, then my only suggestion would be to take it in. Possible fuel pump problem maybe? Not sure if that would cause a clicking sound or not.

When i try to start my 2000 Ford Explorer, all the lights on the dash go on like it's going to start but the engine doesn't turn over, all you hear is a clicking sound.

sounds like the starter, if the battery is good, have someone tap on the starter while the ignition is turned. You can pull the starter off and a auto parts store can check it out. Hope This Helped Tim

96 ford explorer no power no crank no anything

Sounds like a connection problem/error. When you replaced the starter solenoid, do you remember how many wires you disconnected and reconnected?

Was there any indication ( sparks, etc) of accidentally causing a short when you replaced the solenoid?

Your initial problem of no start but hearing the click sound is almost a sure fire indication that the starter is NG. If the solenoid clicks, that means that it is applying 12 volts to the starter.

hope this helps Good luck Loringh
