Saturn sl2 is hard to start once it has been

saturn sl2 is hard to start once it has been initially started. It starts fine first start of the day or if it has been sitting for a few hours. When it is hard to start it spews black smoke.

- I cleaned the egr valve and the problem improved a little. I cannot afford a new egr valve right now. Is it possibe that I need to replace the pre-catalytic O2 sensors?
