I've got a 2003 volkswagen golf gls with monsoon system, radio isn't coming in good and reads CD's when it feels like it... but hardly never I've just stopped trying! tapes play fine though.. however i dont own any tapes! HELP!

Your Volkswagen has a known problem with the radio - many people have a similar issue. There is a problem is the antenna base, which corrodes due to weather exposure, and leads to poor/intermittent radio reception. The solution is replacement of the antenna base - a job that can be done by home mechanics (the parts cost under $20), or by a mechanic.
However, the fact that you are also having problems with the CD might hint a larger problems with your stereo system. Have you tried different CDs in the deck? Try with a few different unscratched, store bought CDs (ie, not CD-Rs) and see if you can isolate the problem to the radio.
