Hi,have a New Zealand new Jag Sov 1998 4 ltr v8,have been warned about my jags plastic timing chain adjuster breaking causing major damage, how do i check this, even to tell my garage guys, never heard about this till a few days back, the car has travelled 65000 mls with no problems to date. Many thanks for your time...Barry
I'm not sure what model your Jag is but, for the XL8+ there is a TSB/Recalls (Technical Service Bulletin) for:
NOISE DURING START UP - INSTALL REVISED TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS:
Some vehicles within the above VIN range may experience a rattling noise when the engine is started. This noise may be caused by the secondary timing chain tensioners. Research has shown that a noise can originate at the chain tensioners to cause a resonance in another part of the engine.
A revised, spring assisted, secondary timing chain tensioner has been introduced to eliminate this concern, commencing at engine No. 98102106XX. Introductory VINs are not yet available. In case of a customer complaint, the revised tensioners may be installed on earlier V8 engines.
But then again, I'm not sure exactly of your model, if you get back to me with the exact model, I can check for any TSB/Recalls for you :)

I have a 1995 Legacy LS 4 cyl 4 speed automatic, 201k. I had the transmission fluid and filter changed on Thursday, 12/18/09. It was over full at the time I changed it. Got it back and it ran well for a day. Since Friday, it has on occasion lurched and shuddered trying to get into gear (out of first and/or second). I don't know what it means or what is causing this. Any help is appreciated.
