Problem for Mercedes-Benz 1997 C-Class

The engine would start from cold then die straight

the engine would start from cold then die straight away as if out of fuel turns over until system bled up again fill the tank full of fuel and starts ok until it gets to about a quarter full it has now progressed to a loss of power changed fuel filter does'nt always change up a gear you have to let your foot of the throttle before it changes up and struggles above 60 mph
