Problem for BMW 2001 5 Series

I have a 2001 bmw 5 series that just failed smog

I have a 2001 bmw 5 series that just failed smog with code po128. They are trying to rake me over the coals for repairs. Any suggestions?

- Is this an expensive fix? Or can that be done relatively cheap?

a p0128 is the code for ENGINE COOLANT TEMP BELOW REGUALTING TEMP it means you need a new thermostat, if the thermostat is not working right the car will not get to proper temp and will not burn the fuel properly and will cause more polution out the tail pipe,so yes that will fail emmision for that,,so now you gotta get that thermostat changed

- well the coolant and thermostat cant be that much,but im not sure on labor,it could be easy or hard to get to,,,i would call a few closer bmw dealers to you and price it out,just call and say i got a 2001 5 seires how mmuch is it to change the thermostat parts and labor total,then you will know
