How does the radiator look. When you look inside. That sounds like the cooling system is clogged. Also make sure the fans are coming on. Those vans really like to kill the electric fans.

Yes it could, but a blown head gasket will usally have differant symptoms than what you are discribing.

Make sure the rad is clean and all of the hoses feel and look good. A blocked cooling system will do exactly what you are complaining about, so make double sure that the system is clean and free of the "dexcool mud". Thats what I call the brown stuff that builds up in the radiator.

Water pump stops pumping at ho water pump stops pumping at high RPMs

check for blocked radiator cores
check that if the thermostat is at the bottom hose in the block that it is operational ( opening)
check that the bottom radiator hose is not collapsing at high rpms water pumps very seldom stop pumping unless they cannot get water to the vanes from thermostat is not opening ( too cold or faulty)
radiator is blocked
air lock in system
bottom hose is too soft and collapsing under suction

What makes car die when under full throttle but idles and runs great at low rpms

The fuel pump is bad or going bad. It sounds like it can handle the fuel demand at idle or midrange, but cuts out at higher rpms. A new or aftermarket pump might be in order.

My 97 taurus GL 3.0 wagon has higher rpms than normal about 500 more and is getting about 5mpg less and running a little hot

check your thermostat and are you leaking any antifreeze from your water pump or radiator ?Also check your air filter and make sure it is clean and not plugged up

Jeep commander clutch fan?

Sounds like a belt may be slipping or bad water pump. Overheating and loosing heat at lower RPM sounds like your not moving enough water through the cooling system, at higher rpm moving just enough water moving to be happy. Check water level and belt tension check bad thermostat not fully opening at temp then water pump. if it were just overheating I would look at the fan but loosing heat is definitely lack of water through heater core.

Only get hot air from heater when the engine gets up to 2000rpms

That is possible. I have seen water pump impellers get totally rusted through due to lack of proper cooling system maintenance.

However, if you just changed the thermostat, I would think that it is more likely that you have air trapped in your cylinder head and you need to properly bleed your cooling system.

The heater in my 2003 silverado 4.8 l only works when travelling at 80 km/hr or over. At low speed in town it only blow cold air. Would this be a thermostat problem?

It sounds like your coolant may be low and the higher rpms are forcing more coolant through the water pump. And yes your thermostat may be weak and stuck open.

Heater blows hot air while car is moving but cold air while idling. The intake manifold was changed last spring, the thermostat has been changed 3 times and the temperature sending unit has been changed....

That sounds like the coolant level is low. If it is not the use of "stop leak" has probably caused a partial clog which restricts the flow of water unless the vehicle is turning higher RPMS. While sitting still raise the RPMS to about 2000 and see if the heater blows hot air to see if the above mentioned problems are fact.

Temp gauge goes into RED at 3000 revs and/or under load/acceler..

sounds more like a weak spring in the thermostat....not keeping the thermostat open fully under high water flow (like in higher rpms)

2000 Maxima Overheating - STILL

You can't determine if your pump is bad. You just have to take it out and look at it. Its internal insisde the timing cover right by the timing chain. Those pumps are pretty bulletproof, because they are internal, but you never know. I have replaced 1 so far in my 12+ years with Nissan and that was a 1998 Maxima qwith over 200 000 miles. Unless you have a coolant leak or somekind of funny noise coming from the timing chain area, you really can't tell, if the pump is bad. good luck.
