The Backup Lights won't come on my 1998 4wd Tracker 5 door. How can I get to the Backup Light Switch "EASILY". Have they been known to stick?
I got a price of $107 from Auto Zone. Any other sources?
They tell me it is on the front of the on transmission secured with 2 bolts. Can anyone confirm this. If the only to get at it is from under the car I will have to jack it up. Can you get at it from inside the car ??
Also The ABS & Break ilght come on intermittantly and the Brake Fluid resivor if full. Is there a switch some where in the system that affects it. Sometimes only the ABS Light comes on by itself. But never the Break Light on its own. Sometimes I can correct the problem by turning the engine off and on again.
The backup light switch is definitely mounted on the transmission. If you find a way to work on the transmission without getting under the vehicle, I want to hear about it. (I have been looking for a way for about 35 years.)
Your problem could be the backup light switch or it could be something as simple as a bad connector. It would probably be worth your money to have the vehicle looked at by a professional rather than spend the big bucks down at AutoZone buying a part that may or may not fix your problem.
The Antilock Brake Control Module is the one to ask about why it is turning the brake lights on. The module will have to be scanned for fault codes, then the fault codes will have to be pinpoint tested before anyone can tell you why the lights have been coming on. It could be anything from a bad wheel speed sensor, to a defective hydraulic control unit.
