SOURCE: saturn sc 95 idle is not stable/ going to die

you might have carbon build up on the throttle plate, take your breather off, spray the heck out of it with some carb spray and also down in the IAC really good. The when you start it, you will have to floor it until all the black smoke is gone. Then take it out on the highway as you are in a Nascar race.
Also your egr valve might be stuck open, and even a intake vacuum hose leak. you EGR being stuck open with cause you a rough or if any take off. Take the EGR off and check it for carbon build up also, if so try to just scrape it off. If thats not possible, youll have to replace the EGR valve, those on that car vary around 130.

Wont idle, surges when accelerating, wont shift to high gear

Hi, really sounds like you need to have this diagnosed on diagnostics at a garage , it appears to be a combination of things
rather than just a single issue. Issues related to engine and gearbox, oraybe something to do with electronic control units.
Good Luck

RMPs won't drop on 97 SL2

on the s series it was very common for carbon to build up inside the idle air control valve-IAC valve.there are too expensive and are easy to fix-buy the part so you know what is looks like the look at your throttle body(follow your air filter box tube to the top of the engine-the throttle body)the iac is right there.

My 1999 saturn is revving very high when i am at a red light or stop sign, the rpms are about 2200

If the problem is fixed by turning the car off and then right back on and the idle levels back out then it is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). It is located on the throttle body and is one of the two sensors (the other is the Idle Air Control Valve IAC).

Replace the TPS. If that does not work then replace the Engine Coolant Temp sensor. It is notorious to go bad and crack because it is plastic. That also effects your idle.

My saturn keeps bogging down when I give it gas then eventually dies I have already replaced the fuel pump & the fuel fiter

Is the check engine light on? If it is, take the car to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool to retrieve the fault codes stored in the car's computer. Most parts stores offer this service at no charge. It sounds like a faulty throttle position sensor to me, but getting the code(s) will help narrow it down. Sure hope this helps and good luck to you.

Car dies when you put it in gear

I would check your MAF and the IAC.  Try cleaning your Mass Air Flow sensor which is in the tube that takes air from the air filter to the throttle body (you will see that it is plugged in).  Clean it with some cleaner that says it's safe for a MAF.  If it's not that and what I am leaning towards would be your IAC valve.  The idle air control valve is located on your throttle body and is normally attached with two screws.  I would start with the MAF just because it's cheaper but I'm leaning towards the IAC.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa!

Jeep stalls

I had the same problem... frustrating.

I picked up a repair manual at the parts store. I took off the throttle body and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner spray. I changed the Idle Air Control Valve (idle speed motor) which was very clogged. While I had the throttle body off I also changed the Map Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor. The manual will walk you through the steps. I had never done anything like this before. If I can do you so can you.
My Jeep has never run better. Good Luck
