Problem for Hyundai 2001 Elantra

01 hyundai Elentra idling issues

Engine is idling low then high as if being reved with foot on pedal. Car can get to a speed of 30mph without manual acceleration. I appreciate all of your assistance in advance.

i had the same thing with my 01 elantra. i took it in and they had to replace the gasket on the air intake manifold. cost about CD$700

Is your gas pedal OK? It could be a fuel issue, too much fuel going in the engine when it shouldn't. Not sure what causes that, bad valves maybe? I'm just learning about cars but I used to work on plane engines in the air force. Just my uneducated guess.
