call your local auto parts store(autozone). They may check your computer codes for free. This will narrow down your problem(s). report back here with your findings.

The check engine light can be tripped by hundreds of things, some so simple as a loose gas cap. You need to get your vehicle scanned , and find out the reason for the check engine light. Most auto parts stores will scan your vehicle for free, and tell you what the most likely cause is. This way you will be able to start to solve the problem!
check engine light means there is a misfire, i'm am trying to solve my misfire problem too, BUT that is the ONLY reason that would pop up, it is also in your owners manual, sry it's not a lot of help : (
Next time it goes on... or before you have cycled the key off and on three times... stop in at autozone... they will scan it for the codes for free... well they used to.
