Chevy cobalt noise knocking in front end when you turn the steering wheel from left to right. Also knocking noise over bumps.

Hello and welcome. this noise is normally caused by a noisey steering I-shaft. there is a steering shaft that goes in between the steering column and the steering gear. this shaft has a slip joint that becomes noisey. all you need to do is lube the i-shaft with some special lube and you will be good to go

2006 Chevy Cobalt. My power steering goes out.

It sounds like the power steering motor is overheating pre maturely. Changing the motor should take care of the problem. What really happens is the motor reports to the power steering module that it is over heating and the module is shutting power to the motor down, the motor is actually no overheating.

I have a 2006 Chevy cobalt and the power steering sign pops up on the screen and then it becomes very difficult to turn. the problem is usually fixed temporarily when i turn the car off and back on, but...

it should have a self diagnose light warning the driver of any malfunction. It can be the PSCM ( Power Steering Control Module) Sensor. when something goes wrong, the PSCM sets a code and turns off the power assist which is what you are now experiencing. you have to take it and get a code to see which part you need. It can be the sensor or the motor. Both are located on the steering column.
