98 dodge stratus running problems

My car drives extremely slow at takeoff, until I push the gas all the way down for a few sec. the out of nowhere it picks up speed, but when I reach 50mph jerks badly. And before I take it to a shop and I wanted to know if it’s something I can fix on my own.

I would check and change air and fuel filters first.

My 2001 dodge startus transmission wont shift, speedometer works, engine light is on. Need help?

Transmission is in limp mode. This enables you to drive the car to service. Anytime there is a transmission code in the computer even if nothing is wrong it will stay in limp mode until the code is erased. Most retail auto parts stores will run an obd2 diagnostic scan to determine the problem and erase existing codes, no charge (Auto Zone, Advance and others)

I have a 98 dodge stratus and i a few times the gauges have quit working. The speedometer, my gas gauge, the temp, just everything just quits. It only lasted about a maximum of 15 minutes but it was still...

I own a Jeep Cherokee and the same thing happened there. I live in the U.K so getting the problem resolved was not an easy one. However, when I took it to my mecahnic he looked at two issues. 1. The battery and 2. the alternator. At first we replaced the battery and this seemed to solve the problem but it came back with a few months. We then replaced the alternator and it has not happened since. It was suggested that whern there is a power drop in the battery the switches and dials shut down to run essentials until there is enough juice to run them again.

I would suggest getting both of the parts tested to see if there is a need to change either one, or both.

Hope this helps

1998 Dodge stratus ran out of gas - filled tank but car won't start now

I had the same problem with my 98 Stratus.....i ran out of gas and wouldn't start afterwards....checked the pump because i thought maybe it overheated due to running without fuel in it to cool it.......but that wasn't it.....It turned out that the crud in the bottom of the tank went and plugged the fuel filter up.....changed the filter and voila......it's good as new.....hope this helps you out.... =-)

Cranks but wont start

the 2 problems are seperate . The starter might have been the one draining your battery. The bushings on a starter can wear out and the core starts to fall down a little at a time until it hits the "beds" This causes the starter to lose speed as it falls. I would recomend that you replace the starter or have it rebuilt. The starting problem may be the coil or coils . although I don't know if your car has an external coil(s) or is built into the distributer.
