It sounds like you need to bleed the brakes. If the pedal will not pump up to bleed the brakes then you must have bad master cylinder. We just had the same problem with my wifes truck. Her brakes went to the floor and would not pump up. It was the master cylinder.

1990 jeep wrangler brake problems including locking up and air.

do not ever do that!@
do not run zero clearance on the MC rear rod, or the brakes do lockup.
this ASE call day1 chapter one NEVER DO RULES> is that,.
take a class on brakes and not kill me on the road. or others.
you bled them wrong.
air is in the system.
in the factory they pressure bled them top down.
and did so super fast and 100% effective and safe! no kidding best.

so buy the tools or bleed for weeks. the wrong way?

here are the ways. all
  1. gravity bleed, may take days
  2. 2 man way, 100years old way, 1 pumps pedal ,man2, does bleed screw.
  3. vacuum bleeder (hand pump tool) mityvac. etc.
  4. top down brake pressure bleeder at MC cap
  5. reverse pressure bleeder.
a good shop may be able to do all those ways saving the customer from huge excess labor chargers.
assumed no ABS, i did. 1990

WHat does it mean when the brake light on a 1985 Jeep Wrangler stays on?

The most common problem is the stop light switch on the brake pedal if you're referring to the rear brake lights. Then again, there's a switch on the parking brake that comes on when engaged that shows up on the dash to let you know that it's on. It could be that switch. If thaat's what you're referring to. If I've helped, please rate my assistance and leave a testimonial

I have a hard top for a 1990 jeep wrangler and it has a rear defroster and wiper. This might be a dumb question but should there not be controls for these and if so where at. I have a chiltons book for it...

So the Jeep has a hard top....... or you bought a hard top to put on your Jeep that originally did not come with a hard top. You can forget Chiltons for good info. If there is no switch, the wire harness may/should be there, so you need to install a switch and relay. The harness ends up at the left tail lamp area. The relay is up above the parking brake pedal. 5 wires. Brown. Brown/White, Black/Yellow, White/Black, and Black (ground) The harness should be there to connect a rear wiper switch in the dash.

Caster adjustment for 1990 jeep yj wrangler

caster is adjusted at the rear of the lower control arms. Camber is fixed and cannot be adjusted by normal means (though special off-set ball joints are available to do that) Toe in is adjusted by turning the sleeves in or out on the tie rod ends. None of this should be done at home though crude adjustments can be made in order to get the front end reasonably straight. Adjustments are made on an alignment machine that allows precise adjustments to all you mentioned as well as front/rear tracking.

I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Trouble Symptoms: -When lights are on, brake lights (all three) remain illuminated and only flicker when brake pedal is depressed. Facts: -With lights off, dashboard lights...

sounds like wireing is shorted together. you need to trace down wires and check for bad spots in wireing. also be sure and check plug if you are set up for trailer lights.

No rear brake lights or turn signals in the rear of 1990 jeep wrangler

Hi Roy,

Get yourself a flashlight and a pair of pliers, and have a look at the fuse box under the drivers dash.

There will be a legend on the box.
You're looking for Signals and Brakes, Pull the fuses and if necessary replace them. If they are good, I'm going to need more detail to help you.

Best regards
Mike

Suddenly I have almost no clutch free play left in my 1990 Jeep Wrangler. Goes almost to the floor now. Was working fine yesterday. What's going on?

Sound like your clutch master cylinder has developed a internal leak or maybe even leaking out the back past the seals. Have you checked the brake fluid level in the clutch master cylinder resorvoir it may be low and you have air in the system. Either way you have a leak somwhere in the system and you need to determine where it is. Fill your resorvoir with approved fluid and while some one is pumping your clutch pedal see if you can see where the fluid is leaking from the jeep. Reair or replace as necessary.

Brake light stays lit

HI, this will occur if the brake switch is unstable. this switch should be located under the dash in close proximity of the brake pedal shaft. replace this damaged switch asap.
