If the Pathfinder is a manual trans. Your clutch safety switch needs to be adjusted. if it is automatic, then neutral safety switch is the problem. Try shifting from Park to Neutral position on the gear selector and try starting. Check for low voltage at the starter solenoid (small Black Wire with White stripe ) You have to unbolt the right motor mount and jack the engine up to remove the starter. test so that starter is last resort. Hit me up at [email protected] and I can tell you how to test the starter.
While you have the "BATTERY"
(always the GROUND side first)... disconnected...
Snap a picture of where & how the wires are routed
to the starter solenoid...
The fact that the STARTER is spinning.. is a SOLENOID issue...
but your FAILURE TO INDICATE
that was TURNING OVER THE ENGINE also indicates
a FATAL issue with the starter
As you can see from the AMAZON pictures these are gear-reduction COMBINED units...
My best advise is to cross check your cost w/rock-auto...
and get a decent rebuilt..
This time DON'T RECONNECT THOSE WIRES until you
have a new/rebuilt starter there...
PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID PART OF TRANSMISSION THAT CONTROL TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE.YOU NEED TO GO ON LINE TO BUY EXACT TRANSMISSION MANUAL TO YOUR NISSAN.BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY SHIFT SOLENOIDS YOU NEED TO LOCATE THE RIGHT ONE BEFORE YOU CAN FIX IT.GO ON LINE LOOK UP CHILTON TRANSMISSIONS REPAIR MANUALS. THEY SALE ALL KINDS OF MANUALS.BUT YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT TYPE OF TRANSMISSION IN YOUR VECHICLE.
Sounds like the starter needs a freshen up. Solenoid should be the problem and when you jump the lugs on the start you are bypassing the solenoid .The solenoid is the little cylinder attached to the starter motor. Contacts will be stuffed. Hope this helps.
Check tightness of the clamps on battery & make sure the earth cable is tight from battery to engine, also check tightness of nut holding the cable 2 starter motor if all ok there its most probably the solenoid on top of starter motor replace this with new all will b ok.
yes the mounting provides the ground. Some aftermarket starter manufacturers use a universal solenoid that have extra terminals for other applications so you probably don't need to connect anything to it. hope this helps!
I had a 1994 pathfinder with the same problem. Direct wire the load pin on the starter solenoid to the positive terminal on the battery with a push-button switch between and mount it on the dash of the car. You will also need to disconnect the existing wire on the load pin of the solenoid and tape it up. This will allow you to engage the starter without the key using the push button, however, you will still need to crank the key to the start position while turning the motor over to give you fuel pressure.
Maybe a temporary solution for you but its worked on my pathfinder for more than 2 years.
