Your explaining a stopped up exhaust. This can happen to any car. (Bannanas in the tailpipe) The old car can have a bad cat. converter thats in the exhaust system. This part needs help to fail, so after the cat. is changed the car has to be checked to find the cause of the failure as the new one will fail and their not cheap. Misfireing , burning oil , or antifreeze, EGR valve not working or some sheade tree hotrodding can make converters fail too. It's illegal to remove a converter and not put the right part back on, Theres jail time and big fines for those that get caught.

- The exhaust will bequite and the exhaust coning out will be very smoth. Take the pipe off the engine and it'll run good but be very loud. a vacume gauge hooked to the main engine vacume will drop off as the engine rpm goes up uder no load conditions. Normal the vacume will get higher until you add a load. if the vacume droppes off with out a load the load is the stopped up exhauset the muffler can do it too the exhaust parts can get so hot that they'll glow in the dark. normal they won'tOct 12, 2009
- Let's say the exhaust checks out. It sounds like it quits al together? the exhaust can be not likly to do that. The engine sensers can. they heat up and fail and when they cool off they work again. Most of them will set check engine light codes but the crank senser and or the cam senser sometimes don't. You didn't say if the check engine light was coming on or even working. A scanner hooked to the car ( not a code reader) will find the problem as the sensers fail the senser signal will not be there and you can crank the car after it dies and see no crank sense and know thats the problem. the cam senser and the crank senser appear to be the same part numberm just installed in different places on the engine and they cost about $50 at a auto parts store. HOPE THIS HELPSOct 15, 2009
- When the car stops will it start right back up? Also an O2 Senser thats shorted to ground can make the car stall but it'll start right back up. Disconnect the O2 ( make sure the wire does'nt get into any thing ) It'll run OK but the check engine light should come on and driver the car. If it does'nt stall change the O2 and you've got it fixed. Hope this helps. Oct 19, 2009
- 11 and 12 are ingtion interrupted one way or another fix low numbers first as high number are caused by low numbers sometimes. Change the crank senser as the high failure rate and the car acts just as you say it does when the senser is bad. After market sensers are better than the orginal equipment. Oriley federated and carquest all sell aBWD or Standard ingtion part. thats good cheap and easy to change after the belt drive cover is remove one bolt and one electrical connector. The cam senser is the same part number but in a different spot, So if your crank senser is good but the cam senser is bad change the one that you took out of the crank with the cam senser and you got a good used senser and a new senser and your good to go. A real loose timing belt will make a 12. 42 is made by the computer being confused by anything going astay including it's self. After changing the sensers reset adaptive memeroy but disconnecting the battery as it doesn't reset the check engine light but it does reset adaptives. Then take it out and drive it againOct 20, 2009
- low codes cause higher codes always fix low codes first 11 is the lowest code possible. no ingtion signal means crank senser dropped out. Simple change crank senser. fix car! 12 is loss of synch which is the cam and crank have to agree. fix 11 you'll fix 12. Don't worry about High codes till low codes are fixed and clear codes and the high codes may nor reappearOct 20, 2009
- I see other 95 neon problems in the questions to answer. You need to put all problems in one question as water in the floor causes electrical problems and if I don't know all the problems the answers I give for one problem don't take into account of how the other problems cause the problem happens. Does your car have watewr in it?
