You need to be able to get under the car safly! Car running in park as flat to the ground as possible. There is a 11mm headed bolt by the final drive on the passenger side of the car. Look on the tranmission by the passenger drive axle. With the car at operating temp you remove that bolt, then you fill the trans till a very small amount of fluid starts to come out. If it's gushing out then let it keep going until it slows to a small amount. that is the proper way to check it. Please note that that tranmission takes the new dextron VI fluid.

I own a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu LT 4 cylinder i need to check my transmission fluid level but i don't know how i don't want to pay a mechanic to do the job if i can do it myself

Open the hood. On the driverside at the radiator. Look down and you see a black cap on the front transmission cover. This is were you check the level. The car needs to be at operating temperature and running in park to check. Unscrew the cap pull it out. Wipe it off and reinstall. pull it out again and check the fluid. Fluid should be in the hash marks. It takes dex VI. synthetic.

2002 Chevy Malibu with a 3.1ltr enging and a 4 speed automatic trans. The trans has a whinning sound when driving. It's not slipping and shifts correctly. It just has a whinning sound. What could the...

The most common whining noise from that tranny is the transmission pump. Sometimes they have a high pitch whine noise yet nothing wrong its normal. Sometimes its an indication of the pump being over-worked due to a dirty filter or fluid low. Turn engine on and check tranny fluid level. If low add to cold mark on dipstick, check for leaks under vehicle. If fluid appears very black or burnt smell, recommend flushing fluid and replacing filter (located inside tranny pan) yours will be a 4L60E type tranny.
