2007 Xterra with about 50K miles. I had the service engine soon light come on and the fuel gauge zero out, even after filling full with a new tank. Mechanic charged $400 to replace the fuel injector. However, I seem to getting about 100 miles fewer to the tank now. Would there be a correlation? I used to get 400 miles per tank, now I'm getting 300.

You should stop by a shop or parts store that will get a scan code for free. If you've got code p0463, which is most likely the case in this situation, you've got a problem with your fuel level sensor. As of now, there's a recall on 2006 and 2008 Xterras, but not 2007s. You can do it yourself if you've got the space, tools, and experience to drop the tank and reinstall the sensor which is on top of the fuel tank on the driver side. Taking it to a shop or dealer will run you $400-$600.

Same size tank? Same type of driving? Sounds like a wrong fuel injector burning off too much.

It could be a bad fuel gauge in the dash unit, but....
Usually it's "The bad".
The fuel level sending wipe arm and windings on the fuel sender wear and send erratic readings. The only cure is a replacement fuel gauge sender.
The check engine light should not be related to the erratic fuel readings.
"The good".
If you have over 200,000kms or 120,000 miles on your van you need a new fuel pump anyway,so have a complete assembly put in which will have a new fuel sender on it.

Give your local nissan dealer and they should be able
to help you out. The reference number should be

It would be nice to know why the service engine light came on and is still on. An auto mechanic can read the code for you, or a dealer, or some parts stores will sell a device to read the code that caused the light to come on.

The fuel level sensor is at fault and is setting the service engine soon light on. Your local Nissan dealer can repair this under warranty depending on your mileage. The fuel tank will need to be removed to access the sending unit.

06 Xterra "check engine light soon" is on and gas gauage whacked

Hi the same happen to me ... i solve it like this
Open the trunk, locate the fuses compartment box, open it
Read the location of the fuse under the tap of the fuses compartment box
It should be "15A Fuel Pump" fuse so exchange it for a new one
You can buy it from wal mart (the little ones, not the standard regular one ok...) or you can buy it from the dealer ... wich i did but it cost me 3.35 dlls and a box in walmart is cheap ....

have a nice day !!!

2005 Xterra fuel sensor bad and service engine light on!!!

i dont have a solution, but i have the exact same problem with my 2006 xterra. when i fill my tank, it appears as empty, then it takes a day or two for it to register as full. and not only that, ive ran out of gas twice because the gauge didnt register as empty, on the gauge it still registered as a quarter and 1/2!

Fuel Gage reading E after I Fill up.

the problem would be that of the fuel gauge which in newer models are mounted in the fuel tank, or the fuse for the gauges are burnt out, or there is a loose connection
